Srinagar, Oct 26 (KNO): For the fourth consecutive time, Mehbooba Mufti was on Thursday re-elected as the president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the elections for the post of party president were held today at party headquarters in Srinagar.
PDP’s Vice President A R Veeri proposed the name of Mehbooba Mufti as the president, while the other leaders also voted in her favour, thus, simultaneously; she was re-elected as PDP president for the 4th term in a row for three year’s period.
While addressing a gathering on the occasion, Mehbooba said that “for me, PDP is the dream of my father Mufti Muhammad Sayeed as he has put his blood and sweat to come up with a viable alternative to the people.”
She said that Mufti Muhammad Sayed wanted J&K to have a complete democracy, but the ‘broken democracy’ began in 1951 when the constituent assembly was not elected but selected.
“Mufti Muhammad Sayeed tried to come up with an alternative for J&K people. He never wanted the chair but a viable alternative to the people,” she said.
“As he was struggling to provide a viable alternative to the people, the Congress and NC alliance took place, which was a black day for Mufti Muhammad Sayed,” she said.
“What was done in 1987 is a history now like our alliance with BJP,” she further said.
Mehbooba also said that the PDP is not eyeing on the chair, but its ultimate goal is to achieve the dream of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, adding that “PDP is not against the country, but against the government policies and the party will continue to raise its voice.”—(KNO)
